Pelvic Mobility is Key to an Easy Labour for Both Mum and Baby

The baby’s head first needs to be able to travel into the top part of the pelvis (the pelvic inlet), then rotate down and out into the world through the lower part of the pelvis (the pelvic outlet).

The first sign that this natural process may not go smoothly is pelvic pain throughout pregnancy. Pain is often an indicator that part of the pelvis is stiff or jammed, and so may not be able to move to accommodate the descent of the baby throughout labour.

If you are having ongoing pelvic pain during your pregnancy, please do seek treatment from an expert like an Osteopath. Normal mobility of the pelvis can usually be easily restored within a few gentle treatments. At our clinic we treat pregnant women every day and are particularly keen to ensure that your birth goes well to help your baby too: It is nearly always the case that the babies we see who suffer from chronic crying and unsettled behaviour had a difficult entry into the world. Don’t ignore stubborn pain as it may be an indicator that the birth may not go as easily as you would like.
