Why an MRI Won’t Fix Your Disc Problem

I am struck time and again how the mighty MRI fails to deliver on its promises. When back pain has been hanging around for a while and people finally receive a disc diagnosis they are hugely relieved. Finally, they know what the problem is!

Except; the MRI cannot tell us why the disc failed at that level and more to the point it gives very little information about how to fix the disc problem unless surgery or epidurals are being considered. (This represents a tiny amount of overall cases).

A disc rupture (a slipped disc/herniated disc) is often the end of a process. For months or years, that area has been working too hard, often compensating for other parts of the spine that have become fixed or immobile. The key to fixing the problem is making the whole spine load properly so that one part is not overworking constantly. Without touching the area and relying only on scans, the information that is needed to fix the problem is never found.

Osteopaths have an expert sense of touch coupled with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Why not try us today to get the information you need to get well.
