Is Pregnancy Giving You a Pain in the Butt?

If you have increased tone in a buttock muscle called the Piriformis it can tighten the ligaments that suspend the cervix to the pelvis. The cervix gets pulled backwards, so when the time comes to give birth, the baby’s head is pressing on the wall of the womb, not the door of the womb (the cervix). This can mean that the signal that tells the door to open is lost and there can be a failure to dilate. If you have persistent buttock pain during pregnancy it may be more than a pain in the butt, but also an indicator that the birth might be more troublesome. Osteopathy can easily and effectively treat buttock tightness during pregnancy. The osteopathic techniques we use are gentle and non-invasive making it a comfortable treatment option during pregnancy.
